Case Study Powerpoint

  1. Love the background of your slides ; P

After working with your case study student in my science class and having to work with you on filling out your intervention chart – it is interesting to see the final product! I think it’s great that you’re having the student give YOU the feed back rather then you giving THE STUDENT the feed back. This holds him accountable and really has him reflect on his behavior. Our schools behavior plan relies heavily on the students reflecting on their behaviors and this really plays into the behavior plan.

I have also noticed how much of an oral learner David is because he rarely would write down anything in class but he could tell me what he had just learned without a problem most of the time. You played on that strength with him when you asked him to tell you how he thought is day when and to verbally reflect rather then asking him to keep a journal with how he thought his day went. However, he will need to start learning how to write because he won’t be able to do the verbal thing his entire life! Does he not like to write because of his spelling/grammar??

    Good job girl! :)

  2. Anna,

I think it’s so interesting that David had a hard time with writing an completing work, which most people would take to mean he isn’t getting the material or isn’t trying, but that he was in actuality bored at times with the slow pace and wanting to move ahead. I think this shows a lot about how children can be misunderstood, and how behavior problems can stem from places we don’t originally think to look.

I like how you had conversations with David, and had him to reflect himself on his own behavior while also telling him what you observed. It is important to help students learn and understand that the way they are acting is inappropriate and why – and to have them come to that conclusion on their own. Sometimes I think they don’t realize it until it is pointed out to them. Also, I think you are probably right when you say that hearing your perspective made him more aware of the perspectives of others when seeing his behavior.

Finally, I think it is obvious you care about David, and I think that through this process, he realized that as well. I think your strategy was great and worked well, but probably the most important thing that comes out from doing things like this is that when we take the extra time to invest and to help students, they take note of that and it makes a difference.
